About Kathi's Dance & Gym Center

Our Mission...

Kathi’s Dance and Gym Center began in 1965 when Kathi’s high school guidance counselor asked her to teach his daughter and a few other interested students in the area.  Kathi’s parents remodeled their basement and classes began at 70 Woodland Dr. in New Middletown with 33 students!  Her first dance recital was at Springfield Local High School in 1966, the theme was “Stars of Tomorrow”.

In 1967, Kathi attended Kent State University where she received her bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education.  During the four years she was in college, she continued her studio, driving home two to three days a week.  One of her early students was Chris Bretz Bednarik who lived on Woodland Drive!  Chris has been a part of KDGC her entire life and has been a vital part of our gymnastics program, being our head coach for years.

Kathi married in 1970 and bought the current studio location in 1973.  What is now Studio B was a 5-stall garage and was immediately remodeled to be the first studio in the establishment.  Since then, the gymnasium was added in 1980 and Studio A in 2002.

It has been an amazing journey and continues to promote a sense of family and strives to care for each and every student at KDGC.

Our mission is to instill a great love of dance and gymnastics, while inspiring self-confidence and discipline providing a solid technical foundation as the student develops.  May the value of health and fitness be instilled in everyone.
